Here is a list of key functions.  While holding Function key, hit the
indicated key:
1:  Toggles Tone Squelch on or off.  Tone squelch is programmed from a
menu under Function + 8.  This menu lets you set transmit tone frequency
or none, receive decode frequency or none.  Set a different transmit tone
from the receiver tone is possible.

2:  d t m f feature I never use.

3:  Selects Simplex, + offset, - offset, simplex again.  Offset can be
programmed to any freqiency difference under the Function 8 menu.  Note:
Near band edges, the offset selection will only choose between simplex
and an offset that will transmit in band.  At 147.500, the offset toggles
between simplex and - offset only.

4:  DTMF squelch I never use.  Allows others to dial a sequence of digits
to open your squelch.

5:  Toggles the beep on or off.  When you press a key the radio will beep
with a high note if command has been accepted or a note two octaves lower
if command rejected.  Also when entering a frequency, the radio beeps
high until the last digit is entered, when it beeps one octave lower to
indicate frequency entry is done.

6:  Reverse split.  Toggles between receiv on repeater output, transmit
on input and receive on repeater input, transmit on output.  For
instance, 147.12 plus becomes 147.72 minus.  You can hit the reverse (6)
then undo it the hard way by retuning the dial to the starting frequency
and reselecting the offset (3), or the easy way by hitting (6) again.  I
say this so you know you aren't in "never-never land" trying to tune the
radio if you unknowingly hit the reverse.  Never does the radio receive
or transmit outside of 144 and 148.

7:  Battery save feature toggle on or off.  The battery saver if on will
cause the receiver to switch off and momentarily turn on to detect
activity then go off again.  Stays on if activity is heard, and stays on
for a time when the transmitter has been used.

8:  Menu set.  Hit Function and 8 to open a menu.  Use P T T to exit the
menu.  This does not key the transmitter.  You can scroll through the
menu using star and pound keys by themselves to move in opposite
directions.  Turn the tuning knob to select settings at each menu stop.
All menu options are circular.  There is no starting or ending point.

In VFO mode, you can set split offsets different from 600 kHz, set PL
tone between  67 Hz through 200 plus Hz or off for transmit and for
receive squelch independently.  Other menu options include locking the
transmitter off, programming scan features, scan frequency limits,
battery save ratios and more.

In memory mode, menu choices are transmit frequency, receive frequency,

9:  Memory clear.  Clears a selected memory.  Display shows dashes.
There is no frequency in a cleared memory.

0:  VFO Scan I think.  I never use it.

A:  Lock.  Prevents accidental changing of frequency or other settings.
Becomes only active key if pressed once, restores full use of keypad if
pressed again.

B:  Priority scan.  Scans the three Priority channels for activity while
monitoring another frequency.  Hit D to cancel.  I never used it.

C:  Memory write.  Press and hold for beep and two beeps.

D:  Empty memory contents into the VFO.  Includes split and tone squelch
settings.  You could set up a two memories with tone settings or
something, then dump one of those memories into vfo to quick set the
selected settings.

Keys pressed in receive mode:

Digits:  Enter frequency.  Starting with 140 MHz, set last four digits of
the frequency between 144.000 and 147.995.  Radio does not change
frequency until the last digit is in.  Last digit entered as 0, 1, 2, 3
or 4 becomes 0 and 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9 becomes 5.  First and only digit 8
enters 148.000 MHz.  If I make a mistake keying in a frequency, I have to
enter all four digits and then re-enter the desired frequency.  I think
you can hit D to clear the partial entry and restore original frequency
display.  P T T will also clear the entry, and restore the frequency
display, but I'm not sure if it also keys the transmitter in this case.
I know P T T does not transmit when I exit the menu, and I think I can
use the D key to exit, but I never fumbled for the D key when P T T was
much handier!

A:  Call channel.  Two options available to exit call channel:  A again
returns you to previous frequency or memory.  Or D will enter VFO.

B:  Priority channel bank.  Star to move down or pound to move up.
Circular.  3 memories.

C:  Memory channel bank.  12 channels, circular.  Star to move down or
pound to move up.  (Menu in F-8 will let one set the tuning knob to tune
through memory channels for this and priority bank.)

D:  VFO mode.  Also clears other commands.  I presume this is what you
hit to clear a scan or start over in a frequency entry.  (Or use P T T.)

Star:  Moves down through menu, memory selection or scan down from top to
bottom.

Pound:  Moves up through menu, memory selection or scan up from bottom to
top.

P T T:  Exits menu or keys transmitter.
